We are a nurturing community, sharing a hot meal, groceries and sustenance with all who come. We offer an opportunity to serve and be served in a safe, friendly and compassionate setting and seek to foster a sense of self, connected in relationship with others.
My Sister's Pantry is the eighth largest food bank in the Tacoma area. The caring food bank, complete with a substantial hot meal (served on tablecloths with china and metal silverware), is open three times a month. In fall and winter months, especially, the Pantry becomes a haven for fellowship, warmth, and caring. Further, the evening and Saturday openings mean that families who work for minimum wage can come without disrupting their work schedule.
In addition, the Pantry offers a clothing bank where clients can "shop" for needed items. Pantry Partners - a group of representatives from the several ethnic groups that visit the Pantry, including Native Americans, Moldavians, African-Americans, and Russians - raise issues such as equitable food distribution, food selection, and getting around language barriers, and propose solutions.
